Hey great article! I think Bandai is kind of like Nintendo in that it's well-known and well-liked among the general population. Would you consider doing a deep dive into it anytime soon? Also, curious what website it is you use to pull the financial data.
Actually not a bad idea. Bandai Namco has however pivoted from focusing solely on video games to igaming, think of games for Pachinko-machines, mobile pay-to-win games etc. Still very nice figures though.
I use a tool developed by some Swedes called Borsdata (borsdata.se)
Thanks. Going to check Borsdata out. I notice in Asia Bandai is huge with its capsule machines? Any room for growth there, considering in NA all we see are shitty gumballs in capsule machines instead of semi highend toys?
I don't think so, but if it's cheap enough to implement they might try. Capsule machines are in a segment they call Amusement which contains their theme parks, arcades and capsules, and today it only represents 5% of their revenue and they only operate in Japan.
I like your thinking! However, I think shorting Nintendo would be tough. I'd never recommend shorting any stock, as the risks are so high if you time it wrong but even if you like shorting stocks, I feel like Nintendo always surprises you when you least expect it. Just like the Nintendo Wii really came from nowhere and crushed the seemingly unbeatable competition, so too can a new console come out of nowhere again! Nintendo work in mysterious ways is all I can say.
